Advisory Committees

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL (SSC)
 
School Site Council (SSC) is composed of five parent/ community members and five staff members. Of five staff members, one is the Principal, and three are classroom teachers. SSC plays a major role in deciding how supplemental funds will be allocated at our school!!
 
SSC'S ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • The SSC is the decision- making council.
  • Reviews student achievement data.
  • Revises and recommends annually the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA); including proposed expenditures of funds allocated to schools that receive categorical funding.
  • Ongoing review of program effectiveness.
  • Establish a new budget with input from appropriate advisory committees (ELAC).
 
 
FRIENDS OF GLENFELIZ (FOG)
 
This parent committee plans activities and advises the school governing groups on student-centered activities.  Any parent or community member can join the committees, and meetings are open to the public.
 
FOG'S FUNCTION:
  • To advise and plan student school wide activities, ie. Fall Festival, Spring Dance, Anti-bully Week, Jump Rope for Heart, Movie Night, Family Dance, etc.
  • To raise funds to provide student opportunities for special programs, field trips, technology purchases.
 
 
ENGLISH LEARNER ADVISORY COMMITTEE (ELAC)
 
English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is required to have at least 9 members and is composed of 51% or more parents of English Learner (EL) students (not employed by the District) and 49% or fewer teachers, classified, paraprofessionals, and community members who were elected and approved by parents of EL students. ELAC's major function is to advise the principal, staff and the SSC on the school program for English Learners (ELs).
 
ELAC's FUNCTION:
  • To advise the principal and staff on the school program for English Learners (ELs).
  • To advise the SSC on the development of the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA), especially those portions related to ELs and participation of parents of ELs.
  • To collaborate iwith the school EL coordinator on the master Plan implementation, school needs assessment, language census, parent involvement, and staff development.
  • To assist with efforts to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance.
